About Malevich, his black square over white and something else.

Entiendo que tengo un punto de vista extraño sobre la obra de Malevich titulada “Cuadrado negro sobre blanco”. Desde que fue pintada a principios del siglo XX ha hecho que se escribiera sobre ella un auténtico rio de tinta. Entre los adjetivos “estupidez” y “genialidad”, todas las calificaciones han tenido cabida entre sus pequeñas dimensiones, pero a día de hoy es difícil, por no decir imposible, negar la evidencia de la enorme influencia que ese cuadro, o su concepto, ha tenido sobre la pintura que se produce 100 años después.

I understand that I have a strange point of view on Malevich´s work titled “Black Square on white”. Since it was painted, at the start of the twentieth century, a great deal has been written about it. Among the adjectives “stupidity” and “genius”, there are many other different labels that fit into its small dimensions, but today, it’s difficult, not to say impossible, to deny the evidence of the enormous influence this picture, or its concept, has had on painting produced 100 years after.

During my exhibition in Chelyabinsk (sep 2017), an exhibition of the painter Igor Berini was inaugurated in one of the rooms in the other wing of the museum. I had the pleasure of being invited to this inauguration by the director of the museum, Vladimir Bogdanoski.

The article, curated by Josh Rydes and Melissa C. Hilborn, contains an interview that delves into important aspects of photographs and of Photosymbolism.

Given the interest of this interview and that it is published in English, we have incorporated the translation of it into Spanish in this blog.
